Once you've installed Subtext you need to create a blog so you can start writing. While Subtext supports having multiple blogs on a single instance, it's pretty common to have just one blog set up. This page shows you how to do both.

The installation process ends in the Host Admin tool. This is located in the /HostAdmin directory of a Subtext installation. You will do your blog creation work from there.

Single Blog Configuration

Single blog configuration is pretty straightforward and is the most common setup. If you run through the installation process and select "Quick Create" your blog should be all set up properly.

The screenshot below shows what the host admin might look like after an installation. This shows a single blog with the title of "Haack Attaack" at the domain "localhost" in the Subfolder "Blog".

Clicking on "Edit" allows the host administrator to edit blog settings. This screen allows the admin to change the URL at which the blog is accessed.

To have the blog in the web root, simply leave the "Subfolder" field blank. Note that if a "Subfolder" is specified, the URL to the blog must end in "Default.aspx" unless you take the extra step to configure a custom 404 page to point to the file /SystemMessages/FileNotFound.aspx.

Multiple Blog Configuration

Having multiple blogs running is a little more complex. You can't just run through the installation process and select "Quick Create" - you need to manually set up some URL-to-blog mappings.

The Host Admin screen has a "New Blog" button. Click that to create a new blog and manually fill in the blog information. Again, the meaning of the various fields is documented on the URL-to-blog mappings page.
